Some of you may already be aware that there are a couple of really poor contributor agreements (contracts) being circulated by News UK (The Times, The Sunday Times, The Times Literary Supplement) and by Future Publishing (too many titles to list, but they also own The Photography Show, which is a real conflict of interests). When I say 'really poor' I mean an exclusive, irrevocable, sub-licensable, in-perp, worldwide licence (in the case of News UK) plus as if that wasn't bad enough, you shoulder the liabilities too. And all for the same derisory editorial rates.

There are a lot of photographers refusing to sign these - there is strength in numbers - so if you're being presented with these contracts, know that a lot of people are standing firm against them. When the titles realise they have little good content, they may understand that shafting the people they rely on for content, is not the best way to go.

There are several groups (AOP included) in discussion with both publishers, trying to get things changed for the better.
