Described as having a documentary style with a cinematic feel, he looks to portray the beauty and energy found in everyday life. Working in both colour and black and white, contrasts of shadow and light are a key focus. His personal projects are ongoing and have helped him define a style that lives in a liminal space.
Inspired by the paths paved by alpine pioneers and spurred by the accounts of early undersea explorers, such as Cousteau and Hass, John sought a life of adventure that began while studying the ocean at University and continued throughout a career as a Clearance Diving Officer in the Royal Navy.
I spent the definitive years of my life growing up in the wide open landscapes of the Namib Desert, Eastern Free State, Namaqualand and various other remote parts of Southern Africa. Combining my background in commercial film making with a photographic apprenticeship, I value the importance of story telling in my images and videos looking to express a greater tale through a collection of shots or images in order to capture “The moment”. I’ve now settled in London and support a worldwide client base.
